Dear Family,

I may be wrong but I’m starting to feel like you think there is something wrong with me. I know Josie has moved on to the next phase. I’m starting to feel like you think I’m just laying around the house sleeping and feeling depressed. Let me assure you all that is not the case. While you assume I’m sleeping I’m actually ever vigilant and awake! You need to understand that I never sleep! I want people to think I’m asleep. The reason for this is so I will overpower them if they even think of breaking into this house! I’m always alert and on duty! So don’t even think of getting another dog or more of those god awful cats!

Ever since we added the pool to the Janovic Family compound it seems like when I go to open the pool I always seem to have a $100 – $500 gotcha. Well let’s just say the pool opening for 2010 is no different. Because of the pool we have, we are not supposed to drain the pool when we close it for the winter. Well this year’s gotcha was the fact that I forgot to put the closed pipes up, so that all the water in the pool drained out. That left us with what you see below. So we will have to clean and add water to the pool. If you want to drop by and help us out please let me know.

Back in the day when I was in high school (for that brief period of time) kids got in trouble for smoking, PDA, and setting things on fire with bunson burners…flash forward to the present…Ryan got dealt 3 detentions for “spacing out in math class, and make shadows on the overhead with my pencil”…when the teacher asked “Ryan, what are you doing?”..Ryan replied…”oh sorry, don’t mind me I’m high today”….as he told me this I could totally picture him saying this, trying not to laugh, I pretended to be a responsible parent and scolded him for smart ass comments…the counselor decided to be generous and not suspend him for the drug reference, but instead give him a “classroom disturbance” detentions…wow only 3.7 years of high school left..Lincoln-Way still sucks!!!!

Um Thanks!? The fact that this is the only thing left in the seat leaves me with many questions:

What is it? At first I thought it was a pickle, but luckily for me I had an hour to analyze it. At one point I was pretty sure that it was a jalapeno pepper but after about 30 minutes I realized that my vegetology knowledge was not up to speed and that I would never really discover the origin without extensive testing.
Why is this the only sample? I can’t image that you were carrying this in your pocket and decided to leave this for generations to discover in the future(and by future I mean the next guy who rides this train). Which makes me think that you were eating something and picked this specimen off whatever it was you were eating. If that was the case thank you for not leaving all of your leftovers in the seat. On second thought F%$k you because if you had left the remnants of whatever the hell you were eating you wouldn’t have made me think about this for an hour!
Where were you going? If I were eating this I can’t imagine what I would be on my way to doing. I’m guessing you were on your way downtown to make bums fight on video during a crystal meth fueled vision quest (I may be way off base on this one).
How much respect do you have for your fellow man? I’m sure some people would see this and say “How Rude!” but I see this as an adventure and I feel very lucky! In fact I feel like an archeologist who just found something about ancient people and can only image what it was like to live in your time where it was fine to just leave weird genetically mutated organisms laying around

RIP Les Paul

You may not know who Les Paul is but if you like music you have heard his influence.
When I was a kid I played the guitar and the first real guitar I had was a Gibson Les Paul. My dad bought it for me because “It’s a good quality guitar that you will have for years and years”. At the time I didn’t realize that Les Paul was an actual person I thought it was just a brand name. As I started playing more seriously I quickly came to realize that he was in fact a person and a very talented, creative, and ingenious one at that.

A musician that was constantly tinkering with things I soon came to realize he was a man after my own heart. The Chicago Tribune had a nice piece on him that does a good job of chronicling his life. You can read it by clicking here.

As far as that first guitar goes I still have it. It unfortunately became unplayable after an accident at a band practice many years ago. I have never been able to get rid of it however because I always think one day I will get if fixed.

This summer when Ryan asked for a guitar for his graduation I let him pick out the guitar he wanted and as you may have guessed he picked a Les Paul as well.

Josie the family dog developed a skin rash last month. We took her to the vet and she gave us some medicated shampoo. Judi believed that the shampoo wasn’t getting through because of Josie’s hair so she decided to give her a haircut. What you see below is the result of that hair cut. It’s a good thing that Judi isn’t a professional dog groomer.

Thanks for your letter. Let me first start by saying I don’t kill these mice for you. Your human arrogance keeps you from seeing there are 9 people in this family. Out of them 5 of us really enjoy the mice. That puts you in the minority. Yes I am a powerful hunter but everybody already knew that. So here’s the deal you keep your mouth shut, keep feeding me, and clean my poop and nobody will get hurt!

Dear Jango,

I know you think you are helping the family out by catching and killing field mice. However, since those mice live in the field next door and don’t come to our house it really doesn’t help us out but since it makes you feel better feel free to continue. Just one thing, please stop bringing them into the house. I’m not sure why you are doing this, maybe it’s to show us what a powerful hunter you are but seriously please stop it’s really gross! I know I have as much chance of getting you to stop as you do reading this but as least I gave it a shot.
